ALBANY, NY (WRGB) — Thousands of women from all over the country crossed the finish line Saturday at the 46th annual Delightful Run for Women.

The first to cross was Keira D’Amato from Virginia — just three seconds away from breaking the 5k record — running it in 15 minutes and 41 seconds.

But as event organizers tell us she was not the only one walking away today feeling accomplished.

Colleen Miller of Loudonville, NY, ran the race after undergoing brain surgery to correct a chiari malformation this past January. She wore a purple shirt with a motivating message, “First race since brain surgery; what’s your excuse for going so slow?” Colleen finished with a time of 38:28, placing 133 in her division.

Anny Stockman, 91. from Rensselaer, finished in just over 1 hour and 10 minutes, placing her first (and only) in her division.

And a special shout out to the CBS 6 crew who participated in the run.

Rounding out the top ten overall finishers are as follows:

  1. Keira D’Amato (Midlothian, VA) 15:41

Once, I broke the Marathon American Record: 2:19:12
…and also, the Half: 66:39

If you’ve read my book, you know I’ve got a soft s If you’ve read my book, you know I’ve got a soft spot for a good Chuck Norris joke. So when I lined up at the Houston Marathon and saw Chuck Norris water on the course… I took it as a sign that I need to channel the Chuck Norris energy. CNE.

Hearing the news of his passing hit me in a weird way. Chuck Norris jokes are ridiculous, over-the-top, and also, kind of perfect… because they remind us not to take life too seriously, even when it feels heavy.

So it feels right to honor him the only way I know how… with a few favorites:

• Chuck Norris makes onions cry.
• When Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone, he already had three missed calls from Chuck Norris.
• Chuck Norris and Superman got into a fight. The loser had to wear their underwear on the outside of their pants.
• Chuck Norris doesn’t sleep. He waits.
• After Chuck Norris won the Tour de France, he made a victory lap.
• Chuck Norris’ calendar goes straight from March 31st to April 2nd. No one fools Chuck Norris.
• Chuck Norris doesn’t own a stove, oven, or microwave… because revenge is a dish best served cold.
• Chuck Norris can slam revolving doors.
• Chuck Norris can divide by zero.
• Chuck Norris knows the last digit of pi.

There’s something special about a @Nikerunning sha There’s something special about a @Nikerunning shakeout run the day before a marathon. This weekend with @nikela was no different.

I found myself thinking about what makes the experience so memorable, and I think it comes down to a few things:

Nike knows how to throw a party. The setting felt magical. The DJ was leveling up the vibes. There were snacks, drinks, and swag. There was even a Nike By You station where you could customize gear designed by a local run club leader and artist. @itsrenewiley, Nike Run Coach, was there pumping everyone up. Nike knows how to show up and support athletes.

A common goal. For most people, this was the final run before the marathon. People have been working toward this moment for weeks, months… even years. When you’re surrounded by thousands of runners all chasing the same finish line, it creates this powerful feeling: we’re all in this together. And that’s pretty special.

Celebration. A shakeout run means you were brave enough to pick a race and go after it. You kept showing up. Early mornings. Bad weather. Long runs… and then longer runs. It got hard. It got scary. And you kept going. That deserves to be celebrated.

Support. Feeling that people are excited for you. That they’ve got your back. That they’re rooting for you to hit your goal. When the race gets long or heavy, you remember that support. Sometimes when the little voices in your head get loud and you don’t have the words to answer them, you can borrow someone else’s voice until you find your own again.

Shakeout runs are beautiful. Goals are beautiful.

Doing something big like running a marathon, writing a book, signing up for something new is scary. And it deserves to be celebrated. Not just when you finish, but along the way.

Thank you to everyone who came out to the Nike Shakeout Run in LA. I hope Sunday’s race taught you something new about yourself. See you at the next one! ✨
10 days post labrum repair and coming in hot with 10 days post labrum repair and coming in hot with some stats:

✨ Crutches have officially been @aliontherun1-ified. I did not expect decorating medical equipment to bring me this much joy, but here we are. Ali, you truly understand joy in the small things.

✨ PT is going well! I’m cleared to stationary bike, zero resistance, and swim every day. It’s not exactly setting my @Garminrunning on fire, but WOW does it feel good to move my body. I feel ridiculously lucky that I can do something.

✨ Daily exercises equal tiny wins stacking up. It’s amazing how empowering the small stuff feels right now. Retraining my body to do things the right way excites me beyond belief.

✨ Sparkly crutches may be retired in the next week or two. I might even be driving soon. My dad is planning to take me to an empty parking lot to practice, which is giving strong 15 year old Keira energy. Watch out, world.

✨ Sleep has been hit or miss. I know it’s my number one recovery tool right now, but I’m sleeping in a CPM machine, hooked up to automatic ice packs, plus a calf compression machine, so not exactly luxury spa vibes. Huge shoutout to @lagoonsleep because I’ve basically built a full cocoon around RoboKeira and it has helped SO much. Otter pillow under my head. Polar Bear along my side and back, cooling and marvelous. Fox between my knees. This is a lot of detail, but I can’t tell you how many people have messaged me saying they have surgery coming up too, so if this helps even one person feel more prepared, worth it.

Pain is minimal, mostly just limited movement and a whole lot of patience practice.

I’m feeling really grateful to be on this road to recovery. For the first time, I feel like I’ll get to rebuild the right way, stronger, healthier, smarter.

And truly, thank you to everyone who’s reached out with advice, tips, and support. The running community is something special. I don’t take that for granted for a second. 💛

Sparkle onward.
Speed bump: the hip and I are hitting the reset bu Speed bump: the hip and I are hitting the reset button.

If you’ve read my book, you know that back in 2021 I was diagnosed with hip dysplasia and a torn labrum. Wanting to avoid surgery as long as possible, I doubled down on PT, patience, and some stubborn optimism… and ended up squeezing out some pretty incredible years. American records. World Championship teams. National titles.

But lately, my right leg has been staging small protests in races and locking up during marathons… then workouts… then even easy runs. When it started to become painful just to sit and sleep, it became painfully clear: it was time.

So this week, I had hip arthroscopy at @thesteadmanclinic in Vail, Colorado.

Unfortunately, spring racing is paused. Rehab season is officially in session.

The good news? I love a build. I love the process. I love earning fitness the right way. And if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that taking care of your body isn’t weakness, it’s longevity.

I know a little something about a “don’t call it a comeback” comeback. And I know the next starting line I stand on, I’ll be grateful that I chose to strongly prioritize my health, had the courage to start again, and kept the passion to go after it.

See you at a starting line soon… 💛
I got together with my very best friends from high I got together with my very best friends from high school. If you’ve read my book, these are those girls: the trading-game girls, the friend-constitution girls, the love potion girls, the spank machine girls (don’t take this out of context), the ones I’ve needed my whole life.

There is a lot going on in the world right now. It feels heavy. It feels scary. I’m not pretending everything is okay, because it isn’t.

But in the middle of all that, we knew we needed each other. And wow, I’m so glad we listened.

@mepleymcwilliams had the genius idea to recreate our @jcpenneyportraits from 25 years ago, just because. I can’t remember the last time I laughed this hard.

Grateful for friendship that holds the hard and makes room for joy… and is cool with buying matching sweaters. Sometimes that’s how we get through.
