ALBANY, NY (WRGB) — Thousands of women from all over the country crossed the finish line Saturday at the 46th annual Delightful Run for Women.

The first to cross was Keira D’Amato from Virginia — just three seconds away from breaking the 5k record — running it in 15 minutes and 41 seconds.

But as event organizers tell us she was not the only one walking away today feeling accomplished.

Colleen Miller of Loudonville, NY, ran the race after undergoing brain surgery to correct a chiari malformation this past January. She wore a purple shirt with a motivating message, “First race since brain surgery; what’s your excuse for going so slow?” Colleen finished with a time of 38:28, placing 133 in her division.

Anny Stockman, 91. from Rensselaer, finished in just over 1 hour and 10 minutes, placing her first (and only) in her division.

And a special shout out to the CBS 6 crew who participated in the run.

Rounding out the top ten overall finishers are as follows:

Once, I broke the Marathon American Record: 2:19:12
…and also, the Half: 66:39

Every Fourth of July, I find myself coming back to Every Fourth of July, I find myself coming back to this photo.

There are a lot of moments in life you hope you’ll remember forever. This is one of mine.

Right behind the births of my two children, representing the United States at the World Championships is one of the greatest honors I’ve ever had.

Getting to share that experience with @emmajanelbates and @sarahall3 made it even more special. We spent years chasing the same goal, and for one day, we got to stand on the world stage together wearing the same jersey.

It’s a reminder that dreams are worth chasing… even the ones that seem a little ridiculous when you first say them out loud.

Happy Fourth of July. 🇺🇸❤️
HUGE MILESTONE. First run since surgery with NO WA HUGE MILESTONE. First run since surgery with NO WALK BREAKS. As much as my friends and I were enjoying those walk breaks, it felt pretty incredible to just keep running.

I’ve been getting a lot of questions about my return-to-run progression after labrum repair surgery, so here’s a look at how it’s gone:

Weeks 1–11
➡️ No running
🚴‍♀️ Biking, 🏊‍♀️ Aqua jogging, 🏃‍♀️ Progressed to the elliptical and Arc Trainer

Weeks 11–13, every other day:
➡️ Waist-deep pool running (20–40 min) and/or
➡️ AlterG running (max 20 minutes with walk breaks)

Week 13, transitioned to road running (always with a 5-minute walk warm-up and cool-down, every other day)

Week 13: 5 x 2 min run / 2 min walk

Week 14: 4 x 3 min run / 2 min walk

Week 15: 4 x 4 min run / 2 min walk

Week 16: 4 min, 3 x 6 min, 4 min run / 60 sec walk
➡️ Progressed to 3 x 8 min
➡️ Then added addition 5-minute run

Week 17: 5 min, 2 x 10 min
➡️ Progressed to adding another 5-minute run at the end

Week 17.5: 3 miles continuous 🎉

I’m feeling everything right now. But something I didn’t feel today was pain. I can’t remember the last time before surgery that I ran without my glutes, hips, and/or hamstring locking up. For years, I accepted that discomfort as my normal.

Today, for 3 miles, I felt free.

A reminder progress doesn’t have to be glamorous, and sometimes the biggest wins have nothing to do with pace or distance... it’s patience. 💛

16 weeks post-op. Today’s run was 4 minutes, 3 x 16 weeks post-op.

Today’s run was 4 minutes, 3 x 6 minutes, then 4 more minutes, with a minute walk between each. On paper, it’s still very modest. But somewhere in the middle, I forgot.

I forgot I was coming back from surgery.
I forgot how much time was left.
I forgot where I was headed.

For a few minutes, I wasn’t an injured runner trying to return. I was just running. And wow, that felt good.

Sure, the milestones are awesome. But so are the moments when you realize you’re not thinking about the comeback. You’re just doing the thing you love. I felt that today. 💕
If you’re injured right now, this is your reminder If you’re injured right now, this is your reminder:
You don’t have to put your entire identity on pause.

Find a side quest. Borrow some joy. Join a community. Be a beginner again.

The goal isn’t to replace the thing you love…. it’s to keep living while you find your way back to it. 💛

Here’s to orange slices, tiny whistles, foam fingers, and enough layers to survive any sideline weather.

I couldn’t be more excited to be a soccer mom… both for my kids, and for all the big kids chasing big dreams this summer.
