ALBANY, NY (WRGB) — Thousands of women from all over the country crossed the finish line Saturday at the 46th annual Delightful Run for Women.

The first to cross was Keira D’Amato from Virginia — just three seconds away from breaking the 5k record — running it in 15 minutes and 41 seconds.

But as event organizers tell us she was not the only one walking away today feeling accomplished.

Colleen Miller of Loudonville, NY, ran the race after undergoing brain surgery to correct a chiari malformation this past January. She wore a purple shirt with a motivating message, “First race since brain surgery; what’s your excuse for going so slow?” Colleen finished with a time of 38:28, placing 133 in her division.

Anny Stockman, 91. from Rensselaer, finished in just over 1 hour and 10 minutes, placing her first (and only) in her division.

And a special shout out to the CBS 6 crew who participated in the run.

Rounding out the top ten overall finishers are as follows:

Once, I broke the Marathon American Record: 2:19:12
…and also, the Half: 66:39

16 weeks post-op. Today’s run was 4 minutes, 3 x 16 weeks post-op.

Today’s run was 4 minutes, 3 x 6 minutes, then 4 more minutes, with a minute walk between each. On paper, it’s still very modest. But somewhere in the middle, I forgot.

I forgot I was coming back from surgery.
I forgot how much time was left.
I forgot where I was headed.

For a few minutes, I wasn’t an injured runner trying to return. I was just running. And wow, that felt good.

Sure, the milestones are awesome. But so are the moments when you realize you’re not thinking about the comeback. You’re just doing the thing you love. I felt that today. 💕
If you’re injured right now, this is your reminder If you’re injured right now, this is your reminder:
You don’t have to put your entire identity on pause.

Find a side quest. Borrow some joy. Join a community. Be a beginner again.

The goal isn’t to replace the thing you love…. it’s to keep living while you find your way back to it. 💛

Huge thank you to @nike @nikefootball @nikerunning @nikewomen or such a thoughtful gift. I’ve rarely felt more seen.

Here’s to orange slices, tiny whistles, foam fingers, and enough layers to survive any sideline weather.

I couldn’t be more excited to be a soccer mom… both for my kids, and for all the big kids chasing big dreams this summer.

— Don’t Call It a Comeback

Appreciate @run.miles.with.steph sending me this quote from my book today. Couldn’t find a more perfect way to sum up the start of this new story.

Last week I was running 5 x 2-minute run / 2-minute walk. This week I graduated to 4 x 3-minute run / 2-minute walk. Tiny steps.

I’ve been thinking about rebuilding fitness like a fresh roll of toilet paper (stay with me…). In the beginning, you take sheet after sheet and somehow it still feels completely full. You don’t notice the progress because each little piece seems insignificant. Then suddenly you’re down to the last few squares and realize just how far that roll actually went.

Crappy analogy? Maybe. But progress works like that too. The small, boring, unglamorous steps don’t feel like much while you’re taking them. Until one day you look back and realize those little pieces added up to something big.

So here’s to the baby steps, the patience, and trusting that the roll is getting smaller even when it still feels full. New story, one square at a time. 🧻
Today is the first day of the rest of your life. Today is the first day of the rest of your life.

I grew up with a hand-embroidered pillow that said those words. For years, I assumed it was something my mom gave me as a baby… a sweet little reminder meant for the beginning of life.

But recently she told me something I’d never considered:
it wasn’t about the day I was born.
It was about every single day after that.

Every morning is a beginning.
A reset.
A chance to start again.

Today was one of those days for me.

Today, for the first time in 13 weeks, I ran on solid ground again. Just 2 minutes running, 2 minutes walking… over and over. Nothing flashy. Nothing fast. But it felt monumental.

I felt gratitude.
I felt endorphins.
I felt joy.
And maybe most importantly… I felt hope.

Healing has a way of making you appreciate things you once took for granted. The sound of footsteps on pavement. The rhythm of movement. The privilege of simply being able to run.

Today is the first day of the rest of my life.
…and it feels really good.
